"The singer is Billie Ray Martin and she’s one of the living legends in modern music history and one of the best voices on planet earth." DJ HELL “Billie Ray Martin is the thinking man’s diva, never being afraid to take a chance and push forward.” Dean Thatcher Dubbed “the Queen of electronic soul”, Billie Ray Martin first came to prominence leading the acclaimed deep house act Electribe 101, her unique voice leaving critics struggling to find words to match its beauty. Electribe 101 scored a series of hits including the classic “Talking With Myself” before Billie departed to continue exploring fusions of electronic music and soul. After releasing the thoroughly scary “Persuasion” and the monumentally beautiful “Four Ambient Tales”, Billie found herself with a worldwide number one in “Your Loving Arms”, now regarded as one of the all-time classics of dance music. Three more hits and the album “Deadline for My Memories” followed, allowing Billie to tour extensively. Since then Billie has worked with Ann Peebles and Carla Thomas, together with Al Green’s and Aretha Franklin's musicians on her album "18 Carat Garbage", developing and to a point perfecting her dream of “Memphis meets Deutschland”. She followed this with a series of acclaimed singles and collaborations – from her own “Dead Again” and “No Brakes On My Rollerskates” to “Je Regrette Everything” with DJ Hell and “Bright Lights Fading” with Scottish duo Slam, resulting in an abundance of renewed media praise and dance chart entries. In Summer 2006, Billie starting taking to the decks with the launch of her own London clubnight “Komputerliebe”, which she relaunched in August ‘08 in Frankfurt and is preparing to start in Berlin at the new Dice Club. As DJ, Billie delivers a distinctive and spot-on set of cutting-edge Tech-House, Emotional Techno, House and hard but soulful Electro. The growing response to her DJing has led to bookings taking her across the UK and worldwide, generating a frenzied reaction wherever she plays. Billie is currently working on her new solo album, which she describes as the ultimate pop-fest, with more than a cutting-edge twist and the aim is a release in 2010. The first single “Undisco Me”, a Moroder-fest released on Rebirth, hit the UK dance charts top 5 and the Billboard top 20, receiving an overload of praise and plays. The next single is getting its final touches at the moment and should be out later this year. In 2007, Billie formed a new project under the banner of The Opiates. With Robert Solheim on co-production, they have finished perfecting the album “Hollywood Under The Knife”. With a rare match of songwriting and cutting-edge beats and bleeps, they have already been dubbed “the Carpenters of electro”. The Opiates made their live debut at Rough Trade, Brick Lane, London in March 2008, to coincide with their first release “Anatomy Of A Plastic Girl E.P.”, out on Kudos UK. They already count DJs such as HELL and Mark Moore among their fans. Indeed, The Opiates’ track “Candy Coated Crime” appears on Hell’s new Gigolo 11 compilation, out now. Hell and Billie have teamed up again to add the icing on the cake to his new album “Teufelswerk”. Their cover version of Hawkwind’s “Silver Machine” has been praised by many as a more than worthy follow-up to their previous collaboration on the BRM-penned “Je Regrette Everything”. 2009 also sees the release of “Push The Button”, a collaboration with French act Risque, set to be released on the legendary Some Bizzare label this August. Various collaborations are in the works, as well as the imminent release of Billie’s "Crackdown Project" featuring Stephen Mallinder from Cabaret Voltaire. Most notably, Billie is currently in the studio re-recording the all-time classic "Your Love" with the legendary Frankie Knuckles. DJing continues to be a main priority throughout the year. http://www.billieraymartin.com/mart http://www.myspace.com/billieraymartin http://www.myspace.com/opiatesmusic
