In the mid-eighties Samy Birnbach was the lead singer and main lyricist of cult band Minimal Compact (loved by the likes of James Murphy/LCD Soundsystem, Playgroup, Ivan Smagghe & more). In the mid-nineties he became Dj Morpheus and A&R for SSR Records, where he was mostly known as the man behind the critically acclaimed Freezone ambient/lounge compilation, one of the world’s most respected and enjoyable collections of freestyle electronica so far, as well as for releasing classic albums by Carl Craig, Bebel Gilberto or Telex. He is currently working with the Penelopes (Citizen/France) on their forthcoming album and planning to take it to the stage. He is also featured as vocalist/writer on the current The Spankers 12" on Art of Disco/Yellow productions.
